A WALL MADE OF FIELD
THE AEGIS PORTAL — DIAMAGNETIC REPULSION + EDDY CURRENT BRAKING
The Codex shapes matter with directed energy. The Aegis shapes space with it. A barrier sustained across an aperture — a doorway, a hangar bay, a containment perimeter — that is transparent to authorized passage and physically impassable to everything else. No moving parts. No material to breach. The wall is made of field.[9]
Diamagnetic Repulsion
Human tissue is weakly diamagnetic — susceptibility $\chi \approx -9\times10^{-6}$ for water-based tissue. In a strong magnetic field gradient, diamagnetic matter is repelled from the high-field region. The force per unit volume is $\mathbf{f}_{\text{dia}} = \frac{\chi}{2\mu_0}\nabla B^2$. A Highfield Magnetics REBCO coil array generating 20 Tesla at the aperture plane with a sharp gradient over 20 cm produces $\nabla B^2 \approx 4{,}000$ T²/m — sufficient to make the barrier feel solid to a slow approach.[10]
Eddy Current Braking
When a conductive body moves through a magnetic field gradient, the changing flux induces eddy currents. Those currents interact with the field to produce a braking force proportional to approach velocity. A 100 kg person sprinting at 10 m/s encounters approximately 5g peak deceleration distributed across the body. Uncomfortable. Not injurious. The person bounces.
Authorization
Authorization is handled by Brainwave Systems biometric identification — gait signature, cardiac rhythm via Maxwell Continuum 77 GHz radar, and optional Halo neural ID. When an authorized person approaches, the coil array de-energizes in approximately 50 ms. The person walks through. The field restores behind them.
Modular Habitats is the first integration customer. The Living House does not need doors — it has Aegis portals that recognize residents and open automatically while remaining solid barriers to everything else.
