Industrial Plasma Water Treatment
PP-07 MODULE
Plasma in contact with water generates a cocktail of reactive species: hydroxyl radicals (OH·), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), ozone (O3), atomic oxygen, and UV photons. These species are collectively more effective at destroying organic contaminants, pathogens, and micropollutants than any single conventional water treatment process.
The Physics
A pulsed discharge (10–100 kV, nanosecond rise time) creates a non-thermal plasma. Electron temperature reaches 10,000–50,000 K while bulk water temperature rises by less than 5°C. No chemical additives. No consumables except electricity.
What It Destroys
Pathogens. 99.99% inactivation of E. coli, Legionella, Cryptosporidium, and viruses at 1–10 J/mL.
Micropollutants. Pharmaceuticals, pesticides, PFAS. Hydroxyl radical attack mineralises these compounds. PFAS defluorination efficiency: 85–95% in laboratory tests.
Biofilms. Plasma-generated reactive species penetrate biofilm matrices that protect bacteria from chlorine and UV.
System Configuration
The PP-07 processes 1,000 litres per hour in a flow-through reactor. Total electrical consumption: 500 W. The module fits in a standard 19-inch rack enclosure and requires no chemical supply chain.
For the Foundation humanitarian deployment, the PP-07 is integrated into the MK-Oasis pod alongside solar power, communications, and Codex educational printing. A single pod provides clean water and printed textbooks to a community of 500 from a shipping container powered by the sun.
